About Su Embroidery
Heritage
A millennium of Wu-school embroidery — every stitch an intangible heritage
What is Su Embroidery
The foremost of China’s four great embroidery styles
Su embroidery originated in Suzhou and is the general term for embroidered works from the Suzhou region. It is renowned for its elegant patterns, ingenious composition, fine workmanship, lively needlework, and refined, clear palette — with a distinctly local character.
Born in Suzhou, Su embroidery is among the region’s most representative traditional crafts. Celebrated for its delicacy and elegance, it was listed in the first batch of China’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2006. With needle as brush and thread as ink, embroiderers write the poetic charm of Jiangnan upon silk.
Three Techniques
Art at their fingertips
Splitting Silk
A single silk thread is split into 16 strands, finer than a hair and dense as piled velvet, rendering the most delicate color transitions and texture.
Realistic Embroidery
Needle replaces brush, thread replaces ink, producing photo-like fidelity; your pet’s spirit leaps onto the cloth.
Random Stitch
Irregular crossing threads pile and interweave, with rich, lively color layers — especially skilled at rendering the softness and sheen of fur.
